How to navigate internal politics and position yourself for promotion?
Megan Vesely, Managing Director at Accenture
Hi, I’m Megan!
I am a managing director with Accenture, responsible for managing several of our regional health insurer accounts and with a background in leading complex business transformation initiatives.
I grew up in Ottumwa, IA and since then have lived in a number of different cities, including Ames, IA, where I went to school; Caceres, Spain, where I studied for a semester; San Francisco, CA where I started my career; Minneapolis, MN, where I bought my first home; and Philadelphia, PA, where now I live with my husband.
I started my career with Accenture right after college – I went into consulting with the intent to spend a few years exploring different industries and career paths before leaving consulting for an industry role. Twelve years later, I’m still with Accenture and absolutely love my career and the opportunities and experiences that it offers me, both personally and professionally.
Outside of work, I enjoy reading, running, and dining out with my husband and friends. I also love to travel – I’ve been to many wonderful parts of the world but have many more on my wish list!
My experience
Through a combination of hard work and thoughtful decisions, powered by some great mentors, I’ve been fortunate to advance quickly within Accenture, and have learned a lot in doing so. On multiple occasions I have asked for increased responsibility, been a candidate for promotion, and negotiated for an increased salary. On some of these occasions, I got the outcome I was looking for; a few times I didn’t right away, but instead Iearned powerful lessons that helped me the next time around.
