How to be a Goal-Getter When You’re Stuck Indoors

The COVID-19 health crisis is still very much affecting our planet, our families, and our day-to-day lives. Getting stir-crazy in quarantine is real, but setting a goal (or two, or ten) for yourself can make this time a lot more productive and even fun! Here are 5 indoor-friendly goals to consider setting for yourself:

Goal 1: Press Play on a Paused Idea

Ever have that million-dollar idea that just seemed to get pushed to next week time and again? Now is a great time to dust off your passion project. Put pen to paper, host a virtual focus group or get feedback from a free business advising service (I can personally vouch for Baruch’s Small Biz Development Center!).

Goal 2: Host a Dinner Party

You’re likely not able to get ramen in Tokyo, pizza in Naples or hot chicken in Nashville right now. But you can [attempt] a DIY! The Internet has endless free recipes that don’t require rare ingredients, and you can get extra fancy with menu templates on Canva. With the restaurant industry taking a particularly big hit right now, you can alternatively get meal kits from some of your favorite spots. If you’re in NYC for example, check out this list from Infatuation.

Goal 3: Learn a New Language

To prep for the time that we can travel again, now is the perfect opportunity to learn a new language. And because we love a good deal… if you’re a student or have a student at home, Rosetta Stone is extending three months of their student version for free!

Goal 4: Find your Inner Bob Ross

So much of how we spend our time these days relies on a screen (both during the workday and outside of it). Shutting off from technology can open the door to a world of skills you didn’t know you had! Set a goal to create art or work with your hands this week. If drawing or painting isn’t your cup of tea, try a collage with some magazines.

Goal 5: Absolutely Nothing

As shelter-in-place rules were put into effect, I was inundated with people just doing a whole lot. Everyone was suddenly an Insta influencer, a fitness guru, writing a novel, or adopting seventeen puppies. As incredible as each of these actions are, it’s unhealthy to force ourselves into launching the next Uber during this time. Cut yourself some slack. Allow yourself to be productive when you want, and to stop when you want. Binge some Netflix, scroll through Tik Tok ‘til your thumb hurts, take a nap, and just practice kindness!
