Job Title: Marketing Content and Position Analyst
Type of Company: Banking/Financial Services
Yearly Salary: $65,000-$68,000
City: Wilmington
Age: 25

Summary of your job:

I am responsible for knowing the ins and outs of our messaging for a handful of our products so that our partners can acquire new customers. Before a campaign launches for a partner, I conduct research and analyze our current messaging and what our competitors are doing. An additional aspect of my role focuses on driving improvements in customer acquisitions and marketing creative. This includes facilitating the approval of all digital marketing materials across all channels. As a member of the Marketing Planning team, I play a large part in making our first impression count!

What is your morning routine:

It's a goal to start the day with an honest breakfast. Every time I start my day like this, the mid-morning slump is nonexistent. If I really have time, I tune into NPR; it reminds me of my commute and makes me feel like I'm going somewhere even if I am still WFH. It just helps to transition my brain into work mode.

What are you doing at 9AM?

I begin my day checking emails that came in from the night before and reading any relevant industry news that gives a peek into the latest or emerging customer behavior. Reading up helps to prepare for my daily team meetings, which start at 9:30. These daily meetings pretty much cover our team priority list for the day.

What are you doing at 11AM?

At this point, I am meeting with everyone else outside my team. Specifically, when we plan for a new campaign, our marketing language must be approved by our Legal, Compliance, and Disclosure Management Teams. So we hold table reviews with these teams alongside partner managers to get everyone on the same page with our messaging before any creative gets developed.

What do you do for lunch?

If there's no meeting or I'm not working through lunch to get something done, I will take the whole hour to decompress a little and have lunch.

What are you doing at 2PM?

If I am not in my weekly one-on-one with my boss. This is finally the time I have to focus without distraction to get work done. This includes managing our content and language library, managing the approval of marketing materials across all of their channels, and sending back approved creative back to our partner managers once it gets out of our internal review process.

What are you doing at 5PM?

At 5PM I am usually tying up any loose ends I have for the day and making a to-do list in Notes that I can refer to for tomorrow's responsibilities.

Do you usually work late?

Not unless absolutely necessary. I prefer to get up early and work than to work late. If I have to, it's a hard stop for me at 6PM. After work, I want to give myself some "Me Time" and learn new skills, either professional or hobby-based.

What is one thing you wish you knew about your industry?

This is my first time in the banking world, so right now, I am in a space where I wish I knew everything. So shrinking that question a bit and applying it to the digital marketing side of things, know that digital marketing is bigger than what you think it is. You really don't have an idea until your actively working that it covers everything your thinking of times ten! Especially now that digital has come more into focus since what has occurred over the last year. So depending on your role, be prepared for a range of responsibilities.

What is your favorite thing about the work you do?

Getting to know people through data! I love looking across marketing materials and analyzing what people respond to and why.

A piece of advice for people entering this field?

As I said before, digital marketing covers A LOT, and you will be a complete beginner in some areas. Embrace being a life-long learner and don't sweat the small stuff.
