Our May Pick: Dessert Founders
This month’s podcast theme is Dessert Founders, featuring women who’ve started bakeries!
How I Built This - Milk Bar: Christina Tosi
Learn about how Christina Tosi took her experience as a pastry chef at high-end New York restaurants and pursued her dream of creating “unfussy, nostalgic desserts.” Together with her mentor, Momofuku chef David Chang, she opened Milk Bar and has since expanded to 16 locations (that’s a lot of b’day truffles!)
Entreprenista - Connie McDonald and Pam Weekes of Levain Bakery - Building a Cookie Empire!
Hear how Connie McDonald and Pam Weekes met at a swimming pool and 20 years later went on to open Levain Bakery together! Connie and Pam discuss everything from starting the business, expanding to eComm and even the story behind the bakery’s name. Not to mention the founders share how they’ve worked to find balance even as they grow their business and bring such delicious cookies to even more people (who else just got a craving for one?!)
Second Life - Candace Nelson: Sprinkles Cupcakes Founder
Candace Nelson shares how she founded Sprinkles Cupcakes and is credited with sparking the entire cupcake trend that emerged around the time of the company’s founding in 2005. In this episode, she, “explains why she pivoted from a banker to baker and how she harnessed the power of saying ‘no.’” However, it’s always been incredibly hard to say no to a Sprinkles cupcake from their signature ATM!
Why we chose the theme: Honestly, we’ve been seeing a lot of baking on Instagram! We were inspired to check out some podcasts on different founders, and we loved these episodes. We hope you do too :)
We can’t wait to hear your thoughts! Join us Sunday, May 31st at 12:30PM ET on Instagram Live :)
